Chania: Two consecutive earthquakes were felt in many areas of Crete, especially in Rethymno and Chania, which occurred within a short period of time, in a marine area very close to Gavdos.
According to the Geodynamic Institute, the first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale and occurred shortly after 12:30 noon, 5 km northeast of Gavdos .
A few minutes later, a stronger earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale , struck the sea south of Gavdos and again 5 km east of Akritikos Island. The first earthquake had a focal depth of 13.4 kilometers, while the second was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The tremors were felt in several areas of the island, with no reports of damage or injuries so far. The competent services are monitoring the development of the phenomenon.
