Canada turned its match against Qatar at Vancouver’s “BC Place” into a… performance for a role, reaching an emphatic 6-0 (with a hat-trick by Jonathan David) in the context of the 2nd matchday of the 2nd group of the 2026 World Cup. A victory that now brought the Canadians to the top of the group together with Switzerland – who earlier crushed Bosnia/Herzegovina 4-1 – but with a better goal difference.
After a “recognitive” first quarter, the Canadians found the net with Larin in the 16th minute. In the 29th minute, David made it 2-0 with a wonderful shot on the move, while three minutes later (32′) Qatar’s Al Amin was sent off with a straight red card, making the rest of the game “nightmarish” for his team.
David made it 3-0 in the 45th minute, followed by three more goals from Saliba (64th minute, direct free kick), Al Manai (own goal in the 75th minute), and David (90th minute, 2nd minute), which gave Canada its first victory in a World Cup final.
In the 53rd minute, Qatar was left with 9 players, as Madipou was shown a red card after a VAR check, after a terribly dangerous tackle from behind on Ismael Kone, who was injured and had to be substituted.
