The women’s triple jump competition at the Balkan Open Athletics Championships, held at the Panthessaloniki Stadium, turned out to be a Greek affair, with Spyridoula Karydi and Oksana Koreneva taking the first two places and giving Greece another 1-2.
Karydi put in an impressive performance, jumping 14.09 (0.0), her first jump over 14 meters since 2021 and a new benchmark for her return to a high level. Earlier, Koreneva had landed exactly 14.00, taking second place, while she also had another remarkable effort at 13.84.
In the men’s hammer throw, Christos Frantzeskakis won the gold medal, prevailing in a particularly high-quality match with a best throw of 77.22 meters and overall consistent efforts over 77 meters.
The race was fiercely competitive, with Markos Memas initially leading, while Giorgos Papanastasiou temporarily moved up to second place with 76.23. The final three were completed by Cypriot Iosif Kesidis.
In the women’s discus, Kristy Anagnostopoulou won the bronze medal with a best throw of 56.71, setting this year’s record and bringing her total to 11 medals in the event in her career.
The winner was Turkey’s Ozlem Becerek with 59.10, while Moldova’s Alexandra Emilianov was second with 58.10. Ioanna Arabatzi took sixth place with 51.37.
