“Black Stars…shone in injury time. Ghana started on the right foot its journey to the 2026 World Cup and its attempt to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2010, after breaking through the resistance of equal Panama in their meeting (which began in the rain) for the 12th group, at Toronto Stadium (BMO Field), with a goal by 20-year-old Caleb Yerenki in the 90+5 minute.
Panama was better in the first half, creating conditions, Ghana had difficulty “finding” Semenyo and faced difficulties against the Central American team.
Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Ziggy, his team’s best player in the first 45 minutes, was forced to give way to Benjamin Asare (46′) after a collision.
The “Black Stars” appeared improved after the break, a product of Carlos Queiroz’s changes, who brought in two more…lively strikers (Fataou, Thomas-Asante), but also because of the now noticeable presence of Semenio.
Both missed opportunities, more and better for Ghana, who finally managed in injury time with Caleb Jerenki from an assist by Thomas-Asante to take the three points, in a match that ended with 12 minutes of delays in the replay.
On the bench was Baba Rahman (Ghana/PAOK)
