The Russian military denied today that it targeted the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which was damaged overnight in a wave of strikes against Ukraine, stating that it was hit by a US Patriot missile from Ukrainian air defense.

“The complex of buildings of the Caves Lavra in Kiev (where the cathedral that caught fire is located) was hit by a missile of the American Patriot system. One of the reasons for the malfunction of this system could be that Western countries supplied the Kiev regime with missiles whose use-by date had expired,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
