Mexico’s cynicism made the difference again, leading Diego Aguirre’s team to another victory – this time over the Czech Republic 3-0 in Mexico City – and with three wins in as many games, they finished first in Group 1, making their friends dream of a great run in the 2026 World Cup. At the same time, the Czechs remained in last place in the group with just one point and are returning to their base.
After a very “poor” first half in terms of spectacle, where the only good moments were a shot by Visinki in the 8th minute (slightly offside) and a shot by Jorge Sanchez of PAOK that was blocked by Kovar, Mexico “cleaned up” the game within 6 minutes with goals from Mateo Chavez (55′) and Quinones (61′, after an injury time phase).
He then kept his goal clean sheet for the third consecutive match and even scored a third goal against Fidalgo in the 90’+4′ amid wild celebrations from his friends, who also saw the iconic Guillermo Ochoa come on as a substitute in the 78′ and participate at the age of 41 in the 4th World Cup of his career (he was on the team in both the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, but did not play).
