Colombia’s quality and class difference led them to a relatively… comfortable 1-0 win over Ghana in the last game of the World Cup’s “32” round, and they qualified for the “16” round, where they will face Switzerland next Tuesday (7/7, 23:00) in Vancouver.
Although the Ghanaians missed their first good chance before the end of the first minute with Partey’s powerful shot that went just wide, Colombia then took control and completely dominated the match. They found the goal they were looking for in the 14th minute with Arias’s cross from Luis Suarez, but then they started to miss one chance after another.
Ghana had Ziggy on a very good night in goal, as he made great saves on attempts by Luis Diaz (20′, 58′), Mojica (45’+1′ from close range header) and Puerta (55′) and kept his team “in” the match until the end. In attack, however, the Africans were harmless and Colombia reached a relatively comfortable qualification for the “16”, now having the challenge of Switzerland ahead of them.
