We had a lovely holiday in Crete (late March-early April). The
weather was fantastic and greatly appreciated after a long, cold wet
winter at home! We hired a car and saw a lot of the countryside. Spring
is a beautiful time, so green and full of wild flowers. We really
enjoyed the local food and everyone we met was friendly and welcoming.
The only thing that was a bit disappointing was that not everywhere was
open for business, still dusty and boarded up, and some beaches had yet
to be cleared of the washed up rubbish etc. It’s a shame really, because
it spoils ‘the whole picture’ for those who visit at this time of the
year. Obviously, it may not seem economically viable for some with only a
limited number of customers to cater for at this time of the year to
open, but surely the tourist season is either ‘open’ or ‘shut’. Perhaps
the minister for Greek tourism would like to look into it? It would
really be an improvement for those of us who enjoy visiting your country
‘off peak’.
