Lufthansa airlines on Tuesday celebrated its 60-year presence in Greece with a special event at the historic Benizelos Mansion in Plaka.
During the event, co-organized with Athens International Airport, the company presented key milestones and the most important achievements of the last six decades of its activity in Greece.
“This summer, with 50 weekly departures from Athens, Lufthansa continues to offer our passengers numerous travel options with its well-known, high-level service,” said Ioanna Papadopoulou, AIA Communication and Marketing Manager.
Greece and Cyprus General Director Konstantinos Tzevelekos said that “since 1959, Lufthansa has carried millions of passengers to and from Greece, supporting Greek tourism and linking Greece to the world,” adding that its first flight to Greece took off on May 10, 1959.
The German airline reached a passenger number record in 2018, carrying approximately 2.7 million passengers to and from Greece, 18 pct more passengers than in 2017, and also held a record in the number of passengers carried in Europe overall, with 142 million.
The airline operates from 19 cities on mainland Greece, Crete and the islands.
