Greece a top destination for French tourists, Min. Theoharis was told in Paris

Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis met with his French counterpart Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and with French tourism industry executives in Paris, where he visited to promote Greek tourism, the ministry said on Saturday.

Theoharis briefed Lemoyne on Greece’s thorough plan behind its recent reopening of tourism, while they discussed the particulars of an immediate bilateral collaboration pertaining to the use of the EU’s ‘green’ digital vaccination certificate.

“I am optimistic that we will have a dynamic flow of tourists from France this year, as our country has managed to sustain its brand name as a safe destination, while offering all those special elements that the French tourist market is looking for,” the Greek minister pointed out.

In meeting with executives of air carrier Transavia, Theoharis was told that Greece is currently the top destination in bookings, surpassing demand for destinations in Spain and Portugal. Transavia has therefore increased its 2021 capacity to Greece to 1,100,000 passenger seats. Transavia currently connects 4 French cities to 12 Greek destinations, while on Saturday the company announced three additional direct flights from Paris-Preveza, Nantes-Corfu and Montpelier-Santorini.

The Greek minister also mentioned that the 66th Meeting of the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) Commission for Europe will be held in Athens on June 2-4, under the auspices of the Greek government.
