Impressive were the temperature changes today in various areas of Northern Crete. The phenomenon is due, according to the meteo of the Observatory, to the fact that the south winds act as descending warm winds in the northern regions of Crete, with the result that the temperature rises and falls very quickly depending on the wind direction.
Indicatively, in Kampos Keramion Chania, an area located about ten kilometers south of the city of Chania, the meteorological station of the National Observatory of Athens recorded impressive temperature fluctuations during Saturday. Thus, in the early morning hours there was a rise in temperature by 13 degrees in one hour. A little later there was a drop of 10 degrees in one hour, while at noon there were four consecutive times of rise and fall of temperature, by about seven degrees each time. Finally, towards the afternoon, a rise of 10 points was recorded in just 20 minutes.
The phenomenon of sharp and continuous fluctuations in temperature was observed in other stations in Crete, although not to such an extent as in this station.
